Highlighting an Important Asset to Our Community: Dale Abrams
Dale and Gail

"Dale Abrams exemplifies the type of long-term, committed support that every nonprofit agency dreams of: someone who leads - and serves - by example." Those words were written by CHOICES who awarded Dale their 2008 CHOICES Champion Award for his commitment to their agency through 20+ years as a volunteer, board member, past board president and advocate.

It seems as if everyone within the nonprofit community of Central Ohio knows Dale's name. As the former Executive Director for 24 years of CIVIC and now the Executive Advisor and Events Management Director of GroundWork group, Dale has been and continues to be involved with many nonprofits through his leadership roles as well as his volunteer involvement.

Highlighting a few of Dale's involvements: Member for 20 years and past chair of Columbus Arts Marketing Association, Chapter Administrator for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (Central Ohio Chapter), Chapter Administrator of the Central Ohio Planned Giving Council and 5 years serving as a Member on the National Philanthropy Day Steering Committee.

Dale's past involvement in the community includes: participation with several of The Columbus Foundation committees, taskforce appointments surrounding such issues as juvenile delinquency and AIDS, and volunteer work with the Legacy Fund of The Columbus Foundation.

It doesn't stop there - Dale also sits on boards of two international nonprofits and on the board of a national educational fund.

The entire team of GroundWork group congratulates Dale on his 2008 CHOICES Award and the continued involvement Dale has within the Central Ohio nonprofit community. He serves as a model to each of us through his dedication and commitment to others proving that volunteerism is alive and well in the Central Ohio Community and that it DOES make a difference to be involved.

Thank you Dale for all that you have done and continue to do.

GroundWork group held its Third Annual Members Conference for an audience of nearly 200 nonprofit and business leaders and provided a variety of educational opportunities throughout the day focusing on a wide variety of information technology related topics.

As one of our member participants stated "IT is an area that if you are not an expert within the field you can at times be intimidated by all of the information needed to get by day-to-day. By attending this conference and participating in two of the breakout sessions, Stretching the IT Dollar and Data Management Lost and Found, I discovered that as long as you have resources like GroundWork group to educate the non-experts in IT and to help guide us through the steps needed to get by day-to-day, it is not as intimidating as it seems."

GroundWork group met its goals for the day: to present ideas for nonprofit organizations on developing partnerships, to provide educational opportunities involving technology solutions and strategies, and to provide opportunities for nonprofit staff members to network among each other, area businesses and potential funders. Participants went away with new information and ideas to take back to their organizations.

"Nonprofit organizations of all types have made it through turbulent waters by pulling together, pooling resources, and sharing knowledge," said E. Gordon Gee, President of The Ohio State University and our Opening Keynote speaker, "I firmly believe that our greatest successes - whether in the classroom, the community, or economic development - come from partnerships." We at GroundWork group could not agree more.

We were fortunate to have business sponsorships for our conference including our Keynote Sponsors: Battelle, NetJets, United Way of Central Ohio and Oracle. We appreciate their support as well as all of our sponsorships for this year's conference.

Participation in GroundWork group's Annual Conference grows every year and we will continue to strive to "put a human face on nonprofit technology" not only with our conference but with every educational opportunity that we present throughout the year. Watch for emails with more details on our monthly educational events.
